Let's say you are looking to install additional/new system memory into your computer.

• Bench Fee: $25 (averaged from local shops in my area)  
  A bench fee is the price a technician will charge you to open your PC case and "look around" inside.  Some tech's will perform minor hardware installations or cleaning for this fee. 
• Hourly Rate: $40-$60 Per Hour (averaged from local shops in my area) 
  The Hourly Rate is just what it sounds like, the price you pay per hour that a technician is working on your system.   Some shops will pro-rate the first hours work if the service takes less than 30 minutes, however many shops do not use this practice.
